How to Spoil a New Mum

After the birth of a baby a new mum, as well as feeling happy, will also be feeling tired and overwhelmed, and sometimes even a little left out, as the focus of attention that was once on her while being pregnant, is now directed at the baby. She will be very emotional, possibly still getting the hang of feeding, and perhaps feeling uncomfortable with her body shape as she can only fit in her maternity wear. Spoiling a new mum is as simple as doing something to help her get through the day. Adjusting to life with a new baby can be difficult and if she can concentrate on doing that without having to worry about cooking, cleaning or shopping for a few weeks, she can settle into her new routine and catch up on some sleep.
Cook up a storm
Gather up a group of her friends and get them to cook meals that can be frozen. This way she can just pull something out of the freezer in the morning and not have to worry about cooking dinner.
Cleaning
Perhaps as a gift you could hire a cleaner for her for a couple of weeks or even come over and do a little bit of housework for her. She will most likely be having a lot of visitors over to see the new baby, and along with that she may be feeling the pressure to entertain and have a tidy house. Running the vacuum around, stacking the dishwasher or giving the bathroom a quick once over will be greatly appreciated.
Laundry
Even tasks such as doing a load of laundry can seem impossible to a new mum, so throw on a load when you arrive, hang out any wet clothes and fold the dry ones.
Babysitting
If your friend has older children offer to babysit for a while. Take them to a park or playground and give your friend some time to herself with just the baby.
Shopping
Getting about the supermarket with a new baby can be a challenge, particularly for a first time mum. Offer to do the food shop for her, and if you happen to be driving past or stopping in, call her before you arrive and see if she needs anything from the shops. In the first few weeks she more than likely will not want to venture far from home.
Movies
Encourage your friend to sit down and rest by renting some new releases or some of her favourite movies. Newborns tend to sleep a lot so hopefully she will not be interrupted.
Beauty Treatment
To really spoil a new mum book her a massage, a facial or a manicure. It is unlikely that she has paid any attention to herself for a while, so offer to look after the baby while she spends an hour or so being pampered. These types of appointments are often only an hour in length so she won't be away from the baby long.
